Decision on illegal colonies to be people-friendly: Tripat Bajwa

The Punjab government would soon take a people-friendly decision regarding the illegal colonies after considering the views of all the concerned parties involved in this process.

This was revealed by the Punjab Rural Development, Panchayat and Urban Development Minister, Tripat Rajinder Singh Bajwa, on Monday. Bajwa was at the inauguration ceremony of a development work in the new PUDA Colony.

Interacting with mediapersons, Bajwa said Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh had constituted a Cabinet sub-committee to resolve the issue of illegal colonies. “The sub-committee has been been holding a series of meetings to make positive people-friendly decision to resolve this serious issue. It is in the process of giving a hearing to all the concerned parties, including colonisers, residents and plot holders of the illegal colonies and government officials,” he said.

Bajwa said the state government was also working on getting the illegal land of government vacated and action would be initiated soon.

Briefing about the Guru Ram Das Urban Estate at Amritsar, Bajwa said modern facilities would be provided to the colony which is spread in 71 acres. “The salient feature of this colony is the convention centre being set up in 10 acres for exhibitions and industrial meets,” he said.

The colony would also have a hotel, a school, a community centre, a park and a petrol pump. Besides, there has been a special focus on greenery by planting trees.

The minister reiterated that the development work of this colony would be completed on time. “If any irregularity surfaces, stringent action will be initiated,” he said.
