As three months have passed by since the launch of the MC’s smart-dustbin project, the civic body is yet to instal the proposed 64 bins at 32 locations in the city. The project, which had initially been launched with a budget of estimated Rs 4 crore, is yet to get approval from the House.

MC Commissioner Sonali Giri says the tenders have already been processed and finalised. “The approval for installation will soon be finalised in the upcoming House meeting on October 20. Initially, we had installed two bins under the demo – one near the EMC hospital and the other at Ward No. 43. The purpose was to segregate the dry and wet waste and garbage-lifting is being carried out twice daily at both the sites. We hope that any further delay is not caused.”
