Amritsar, December 13
A delegation of officials of the Northern Railway, led by its General Manager AK Puthia, today visited the railway workshop and took a stock of various development works.
The delegation also took a stock of infrastructure and sought a detailed performance review of the local railway station and the mechanical workshop.
Besides, the officials also reviewed the entire double-line track of the main line between Jalandhar and Amritsar.
Various factors to improve the condition of the workshop and measures to improve its productivity were weighed and discussed. Puthia stressed on making the journey of passengers safe and comfortable.
Sources in the Railways said the visiting team assessed the high quantum of work. It felt that the quantum of work would decrease once the satellite railway station at Chheharta would be ready.
Chheharta would have two new washing lines and upgradation in its infrastructure would reduce the burden of the work.
The Chheharta railway station is situated about four km away from the Amritsar railway station. It will also reduce the burden of the railway workshop.
They also visited the Punjabi heritage village, which was recently inaugurated on the campus of Guru Nanak Dev University.
Besides, a model of Durgiana Temple is ready to be installed at the railway station.
