Amritsar, July 8
To promote digitisation and manage heavy rush at the General Post Office, officials are planning to introduce a digital number system.
Under the system, a customer has to get a token from the office for his work and has to wait for his turn, which will save his time. At present, long queues can be seen at various counters.
Talking about the system, Vijay Kumar, senior postmaster at the General Post Office, (Head Office), said, “We are planning to introduce a digital system to manage the rush at the Head Office. After the implementation of the system, the rush will be more organised and people will not have to wait for long.” The post office is also planning to install LCDs for the benefit of the customers.
The authorities said their focus was on rural areas owing to heavy competition from banks in urban areas.
