In order to create awareness on reading and books in general, Sohan Singh Josh District Library at Rani Ka Bagh is hosting a first ever “Walk for Books” in collaboration with the district administration. Deputy Commissioner Varun Roojam will be a part of the walk.
The event will be held as an awareness drive-cum-march on September 26 at 8.30 am, starting from District Library and culminating at Company Bagh. The focus of the event will be to promote books and reading culture among youngsters.
Prabhjot Kaur Sandhu, librarian at the district library, said the initiative was one among many to reach out to citizens for highlighting importance of books.
She said, “Like the two-day book exhibition that we hosted earlier, the walk, too, will engage people in our programme. Reading is not much promoted as a culture. It requires efforts of parents, schools, educators and libraries as a team to ensure that coming generation stays connected to books. We have invited NGO’s, schools, educational institutions and general public to have a literary experience.”
This walk will also commemorate Shaheed Bhagat Singh’s birth anniversary.
