An acupuncture specialist from the city, Dr Sukhwinder Singh, was selected by the Acupuncture Science Association, India, to attend the first International Conference on Acupuncture (ACUCAM 2015 ), organised by the Pakistan Acupuncture Council, which concluded on January 29.
The conference, which was held at Pearl Continental, Lahore, started from January 25. Saira Afzal Tarar, Central Health Minister, Pakistan and Khwaja Salman Rafiq , Health Minister, Pakistan Punjab, were the guests on the occasion. Delegates from Malaysia, the US and other countries also attended the conference.
A crash course on fundamentals of acupuncture theories and physiology of TCM, laser acupuncture and acupuncture for facial rejuvenation and weight loss was conducted from January 26 to 28 during the conference. An acupuncture workshop was also held on the occasion to provide hands on experience to the participants.
Dr Sukhwinder Singh, who was the guest of honour at the conference, presented a paper on laser acupuncture treatment for cerebral palsy. He has given a presentation on integrated approach to drug addiction treatment on earlier occasion.
Dr Sukhwinder said the socio-economic and environmental conditions of the two countries were not very different. He said, “That is why I have discovered that there are almost same type of diseases as the residents of both the nations have identical style of living. I feel that these types of health-related associations will help building bonds between the two countries.”
Later, he was awarded by Saira Afzal Tarar. “She has also assured to place the acupuncture technique under the ambit of a complete system of medicine in Pakistan,” said the doctor.
Dr Sukhwinder Singh was also special guest of honour at the 21st International Integrated Medical Conference held in Lahore on January 23. Other chief guests on the occasion were Dr Fayyaz Ahmad Ranjha, Director General, National Medical Training Board, Pakistan
Dr Sukhwinder invited Dr Shahzad, chairman of the Pakistan Acupuncture Council and his team, on behalf of the Acupuncture Association, India, to a conference at New Delhi, which is scheduled forsFebruary 13 to 14.
