The Animal Welfare Board of India (AWBI) has nominated Dr Preet Mohinder Singh Bedi as honorary District Animal Welfare Officer for Amritsar.

The AWBI, a statutory body under Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change, nominated him on the recommendation of honorary state animal welfare officer Dr Sandeep K Jain.

He has to coordinate with district authorities and animal welfare organisations to fulfil the mandate of AWBI.

The Tribune, now published from Chandigarh, started publication on February 2, 1881, in Lahore (now in Pakistan). It was started by Sardar Dyal Singh Majithia, a public-spirited philanthropist, and is run by a trust comprising five eminent persons as trustees.

The Tribune has two sister publications, Punjabi Tribune (in Punjabi) and Dainik Tribune (in Hindi).
