Dr KK Aggarwal was sworn in as the national president of the Indian Medical Association (IMA) here today during the ongoing All-India Medical Conference and Central Council Meeting. He is Padma Shri and Dr BC Roy National awardee.
Dr Ketan Desai, president, World Medical Association, Dr Jayshree Ben Mehta, president, Medical Council of India, and AR Kohli, former Governor of Mizoram, also attended the event.
Many issues affecting the Indian medical community, along with goals and visions of the IMA for the forthcoming term were discussed at the two-day meeting that was attended by over 1,000 participants.
Dr Aggarwal said, “Four A’s of universal healthcare — Available, Accessible, Affordable and Accountable — will be the guiding determinants of policies of the IMA for the year 2017.”
He said, “Our fight against unfair nature of the PCPNDT and Clinical Establishment Act, increasing violence against doctors and the undemocratic NMC Act will continue.” A number of campaigns to increase awareness and better health services would be initiated during the term, he added. Leaders of the IMA also announced to embrace the Digital India initiative launched by the Prime Minister and go paperless from the forthcoming term.
