Amritsar: Keeping the festive spirit alive Durga Ashtami and Dashera were celebrated with gaiety at Shri Ram Ashram Public School here today. A cultural programme was organised on the occasion. Students presented devotional songs, animating skits and dances during the programme. A special assembly was held to make children aware about the importance of Durga Asthami and Dashera in which Durga Puja was performed in a Bengali style. Students offered prayers and recited hymns. Students dressed up in traditional and colourful attire danced on the tunes of dandia folk songs. Manager-cum-educational adviser SN Joshi highlighted the symbolic significance of the festival. He said Ma Durga was depicted as powerful goddess and the festival lasted for nine days in honour of her nine manifestations. Principal Vinodita Sankhyan also worshipped the Goddess Durga and sought her blessings during the programme.

Students recite shlokas from Ramayana

DAV Public School celebrated Durga Ashtami and Dasehra with fervor and enthusiasm. Students organised a special assembly to mark the victory of good over evil and paid obeisance to Lord Rama and Goddess Durga. They recited hymns and shlokas from Ramayana on the occasion. They also recited Rama Katha glorifying the valour and righteousness of Lord Rama even in trying times like exile. Students mesmerised the audience by presenting a role play highlighting the Ashtami celebrations during which girls are worshipped to mark the auspicious day. They prayed to Almighty to seek blessings and inspiration from the ethical and virtuous life of Lord Rama to enable them to lead a life of goodness and justice.

BBK DAV College win malkhumb contest

Rope Malkhumb team of BBK DAV College for Women won Guru Nanak Dev University Inter-College Rope Malkhumb Championship. The college team won the championship with 16 points, whereas HMV, Jalandhar, bagged the second position with 14 points and RG, Phagwara, got the third position with four points. Meenakshi, Sania Bhandari and Suman of BBK DAV College team will represent the GNDU in the All India Inter-varsity Championship, which will be held at Patiala from November 13. Other members of the team, which won the championship, are Balwinder Kaur and Kuljeet. Principal, Dr Neelam Kamra and head of the Sports Department, Sweety Bala, felicitated the students and motivated them to maintain good positions in future as well. Savita Kumari and Aruna, both teachers of the Sports Department and coach Narpinder Singh congratulated the students for their achievements. — TNS
