The authorities of the Employees State Insurance (ESI) Hospital, Majitha Road, have filed a complaint with the police to get the staff quarters illegally occupied by its own employees vacated. The police on the other hand have asked the hospital authorities to take internal action against erring employees. Sources said the police have termed the matter as an internal issue of the hospital and refused to take any action.

A few quarters at the Employees State Insurance Hospital meant for medical officers have allegedly been occupied by Class III and Class IV workers. Earlier, the hospital had also constituted a committee of its own to identify the quarters, which had been illegally occupied by its employees. The committee had shortlisted at least 15 such quarters.

Officials of the hospital said such employees were also issued notices, but they failed to file a reply. As these occupants are also serving at the ESI Hospital, the authorities are in a dilemma. “It is difficult to take action in such circumstances as employees might protest against it,” said a doctor. The hospital has around 104 quarters meant for employees of various cadres.

The hospital authorities said they had sent a request letter to the police on July 28 this year. As the police termed the matter an internal issue of the hospital, no quarter could be got vacated, added the authorities.
