Ex-cricketer Harvinder Singh resigns from AGA

Harvinder Singh, former medium pace bowler of the Indian cricket team, has resigned from his position of chief selector in the Amritsar Games Association (AGA). Some tussle within the AGA is said to be the reason behind the move.

As the chief selector, he was authorised to select the senior and junior cricket teams of the district. His resignation came in the backdrop of the recent appointment of former junior national cricketer Chandan Madan as Cricket Operations head.

In his letter to Deputy Commissioner KS Sangha, who is also the president of the Amritsar Games Association, Harvinder stated “Due to some unavoidable circumstances and family urgencies, I am unable to continue my job as chief selector of the AGA. Kindly accept my resignation.”

Harvinder, who is the bowling coach of Punjab Ranji team, is currently with the squad on a tour to West Bengal.

Talking to The Tribune, he said that before tendering his resignation, he had gone to meet the DC and an SDM, who is the secretary of the AGA, but these attempts remained unanswered.

He also sent a letter to the Punjab Cricket Welfare Association (PCWA), pointing towards messy affairs, inner wrangling and politicalisation of the AGA.

PCWA honorary secretary Monish DP Azad said the letter was forwarded to the association president, Rajinder Singh, who would forward the suggestions to the Punjab Cricket Association.

Members of the AGA, seeking anonymity, said a section of cricketers was given sweeping powers while others were left in a lurch and were made to feel as a non-entity. They feel that these moves have also created a chasm between the cricketers.
