A team of agricultural experts today visited various villages in the district to create awareness about the problem of yellow rust, which inflicts the wheat crop. Farmers were apprised about symptoms of the disease and other problems related to the crop.

Block agriculture officer Gurinder Singh said, “Sometimes farmers take ill effects of injudicious use of pesticides as symptoms of yellow rust.” He said farmers should immediately contact the Agriculture Department to seek clarification about any symptoms of the disease and get expert advice.

He added that sometimes farmers used chemical spray even before the onset of the disease as a preventive measure. “The spray cannot be used as a preventive measure. It is effective only when the disease strikes,” he added. — TNS
