The UGC-HRDC department of the Guru Nanak Dev University (GNDU) is all set to be upgraded as the Faculty Development Centre (FDC) by the Ministry of Human Resource Development.
The centre will be established with a grant of Rs 2.70 crore under Pandit Madan Mohan Malviya National Mission on Teachers and Teaching (PMMMNMTT) scheme. The proposal has been sanctioned for a period three years. This is one of the few human resource development centers (HRDC) which have been upgraded to the FDC. It mainly intends to conduct induction programmes for the newly-recruited faculty, in addition to conducting workshops seminars, conferences and symposium. The effort is to build a robust professional cadre of teaching faculty in order to uplift the level of education in the country to the global standards.
Dr Jatinder Singh, Director, UGC-HRDC department of the GNDU, said, “The main objective of this newly-launched scheme is to enhance the competence and expertise in addition to widening the horizons of the teachers working in the domain of higher education in the country. Our centre is already conducting refresher courses, orientation programs and short term courses for college and university teachers.”
The Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports is all set to establish MYAS-GNDU Centre for Sports Sciences with a grant of Rs 25 crore for a period of five years. This is the only centre set up by the MYAS outside their ministry and will be the second in the country after the one in Gwalior.
