Victim Jaskirandeep Kaur stated to the police that she read an advertisement on facebook about the accused that he dealt in tourist and student visa besides getting people settled abroad. She said that she along with her husband and sister met the accused. The family submitted all the necessary documents as demanded by the accused for migrating to Canada. They took Rs 31.06 lakh from them for the same following which they shut the office and fled without any intimation. The accused are not receiving phone calls.

ADCP Lakhbir Singh said an investigation was under way and the process was on to ascertain the identities of the accused.

It is mandatory for the travel agencies to get themselves registered with the district administration for running their operations. However, in absence of any check, fake travel agencies are thriving in the city in different markets. Only a handful of them have got themselves registered with the administration. People also have failed to learn a lesson from past incidents. They don’t check the legality of such agencies in their urge for greener pastures.
