Till April, the metro bus service is free. Before boarding a bus, passengers are required to take ticket from the station that costs them nothing.

Earlier, the lowest fare had been set at Rs 10 for 0 to 3 km. For travelling just 300 m from SSSS Chowk to Novelty Chowk, one would have to shell out Rs 10 under the previous tariff. After 12 km, the passengers were required to pay Rs 1 for every kilometre.

Employees at the ticket window said the old rates made passengers worried as they thought that their daily journey would prove costly after April. “Now, passengers will get an idea of the money they will be required to spend after April 30,” said a staff member.

Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Inderjeet Singh Chawla said, “We have revised the fare. Now, passengers are getting ticket under the new slab. It has been recommended by the Urban Mass Transit Company. These fares are less than that of the BRTS service Ahmadabad, Surat and Jaipur and equal to Bhopal Indore and Pune.”
