Fashion designing exhibition organised

The PG Department of Fashion Designing organised a two-day exhibition at Khalsa College, Amritsar(KCA), where students presented their own designs and handicrafts for the public. The aim, said the organisers, was to provide out of classroom activities, giving the students experience and knowledge required in the upcoming sector of fashion designing and trends. The exhibition was inaugurated by KCGC honorary secretary Rajinder Mohan Singh Chhina and Dr Raminder Kaur, HoD, Punjabi Studies, Guru Nanak Dev University. Principal Dr Mehal Singh, who welcomed the guests, said purpose of the exhibition was to educate students about designing skills and establishing a folk sensibility in a seminal moment for the development of craft.
Chhina lauded the designs of the students and appreciated the efforts of the department for putting up a great show. He said the department constantly endeavors to provide such experiences to the students so that they focus on building strong aesthetic designs with an awareness of our rich handmade crafts. Dr Raminder Kaur emphasised that these events enlighten the students to design with a perspective of uplifting the Indian handloom weavers in various regions of our country.
She added, “This workshop, the students and participants got to learn different dynamics of personal styling, wardrobe editing, styling techniques, personal shopping and the art of clustering.” The exhibition witnessed an interactive experience where the visitors touched the fabrics, smell the colors of dyes and listened to the sounds of weaving. The equipment used in hand spinning and hand-weaving of cotton fabrics were demonstrated to enrich the knowledge of students towards handloom constructions. The last session also involved a detailed discussion on the multiple facets of fashion styling and how it is essential into the industry these days. Principal Mehal Singh while applauding the young budding designers and faculty of the department mentioned that the pursuit of a personal style is a transcendental tool toward self-realisation, enlightenment and freedom from conventions. Dean academics Prof Sukhmani Bedi, Prof Davinder Singh, OSD Prof Navreen Bawa, Prof MS Batra, Dr Taminder Singh Bhatia, Dr Joginder Singh Arora, Prof Jasjeet Kaur Randhawa and other staff and students were present.
