A fire broke out at the Khanna Paper Mill, located on the Amritsar-Attari bypass road, today evening.
However, timely action by the mill staff and the Fire Brigade Department averted a major fire mishap and prevented spreading of flames. The incident led to loss of raw paper material stashed in the godown. Sub fire officer Tilak Raj Maini said the fire erupted at 8pm. Three fire brigade vehicles were pressed into service to douse the flames. He said before the their team reached the spot, the fire extinguishing system of the mill, which had huge water hose pipes, became operational and helped in controlling the fire and spreading further. It took around half an hour to douse the flames, he added.
Managing director Sunit Kochhar said it was a minor fire incident and was controlled within no time.
