First-aid training camp at Guru Nanak Dev University

The Department of Botanical and Environmental Sciences of Guru Nanak Dev University organised a first-aid training camp on the campus here today.
Dr Satwinderjeet Kaur, head of the department, extended a formal welcome to Dr Sunil Kumar and his team from Ziquitza Health Care Limited, who imparted the basic first aid and life support training to the students, research scholars and teachers.
The objective of the training camp was to give confidence and knowledge to students so that they could help the victim by providing him the basic life support aid until the proper helped arrived.
The training covered various areas of first aid care and operation such as road side trauma, cardiac emergency, diabetic emergency, respiratory emergency, epilepsy emergency, suffocation, choking, cardio pulmonary resuscitation (CPR), wound bleeding, bone injury (fracture), dressing and bandage, spinal injury, medical emergency at home, snake bite, poisoning, infections and few other miscellaneous areas of medical importance. The proper usage of each was explained thoroughly to the participants to prevent any misuse. The camp covered basic first aid information and received a positive response from the participants.
Varinder Singh Mahal, cluster leader of Ziquizta Health Care Limited, gave a brief highlight of emergency ambulances.
He said the services of ambulances were provided 24 hours through emergency response centre (ERC) and could be availed from anywhere in the Punjab by dialing 108 from either the landline or mobile phone.
He added that ambulances were monitored through GPS for deployment to the site. All ambulances were well-equipped with medical instruments and medicines required for basic life support while transporting a patient.
Prof AK Thukral, Prof Avinash Nagpal, director, Human Resource Develpoment Centre, Prof Renu Bhardwaj, controller of examinations, Prof Saroj Arora, Dr Jatinder Kaur, Bhupinder Pal Singh and Dr Kirandeep Dhami attended the programme along with others.
Lecture on legal education
A lecture was organised in the Department of Laws on “Emerging trends in legal education and profession” on Guru Nanak Dev University campus here today.
Prof Afzal Wani from University School of Law and Legal Studies, Guru Gobind Singh Inderprastha University, New Delhi, delivered the lecture.
Prof Viney Kapoor, head, Department of Laws, GNDU, gave the welcome address.
Prof Wani emphasised upon the objectives in the field of law and motivated students to work for society and nation at large especially for the weaker sections.
He also apprised the participants about various career options in the legal profession available throughout the world.
He said, “Lawyers are a link between the ruler and the common people. They should not only be the followers, but also creative. I always motivate students to become jurists and thinkers.” A vote of thanks was presented by Prof Bimaldeep.
