Amritsar, February 23
The town planning wing of the Municipal Corporation (MC) has sealed four marriage palaces, said to be constructed in violation of rules near the ammunition depot at Vallah, Verka bypass. The action was taken late on Friday evening.
MC officials, led by Municipal Town Planner IPS Randhawa, sealed Utsav Forest Resort, Lily Resort, Grand Celebration and Western Villa.
Meanwhile, according to reports, two of the palaces allegedly opened the seal to host marriage functions on Saturday evening.
Ironically, when these marriage places, which are a few metres away from the ammunition depot, were constructed, what were the MC or the administration doing at that time? ask local residents.
On February 20, a major fire had broke out in one of the palaces. On the complaint of the ammunition depot, the MTP wing took action finally on Friday.
Farmers of Vallah and residents of Sabji Mandi alleged that officials of the Municipal Corporation had connived with traders to let them construct these marriage palaces. Sukhdev Singh, a resident of Sabji Mandi, said, “Slum residents are often booked for constructing a room more than 500 metres away from the dump. Farmers are not allowed to construct even a shed on the tube well but how come such large marriage palaces came up and got functional? Officials must be hand in glove.”
Owners of these palaces claimed that they had taken stay orders so the MC couldn’t seal the property by violating court orders.
IPS Randhawa said the sealing drive was taken up as per the law.
