Flying squads to check sale of plastic kite string

To check the sale and use of plastic kite flying thread, the district administration has constituted flying squads in all sub-divisions of the district. Deputy Commissioner Ravi Bhagat said to implement the ban on the sale of lethal thread with strictness, teams comprising senior officials of the administration have been constituted.

In Amritsar 1 sub-division, a team comprising Tehsildar Gurmander Singh, Kanungo Lakhwinder Singh and ADO Satinder Singh has been constituted. In Majitha sub-division, Naib Tehsildar JP Salwan, DSP Vishaljeet Singh, Kanungo Ashok Kumar and ADO Satnam Singh have been included in the flying squad. Bhagat said SHOs of the area concerned too would ensure that no sale or use of the lethal thread is made. In Ajnala sub-division, the administration has constituted two teams. The Deputy Commissioner stated that the teams have been asked to send the action taken report on a daily basis.

The thread made of plastic causes severe cut injuries, resulting in death in some cases. The thread does not break easily and inflicts severe injuries. The thread, due to its hard-to-break quality, has made it popular among the kite flyers even as it results in injuries to humans and birds.
