Taking inspiration from his grandfather — former Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh, 22-year-old Randeep Singh Kohli has bagged the National Excellence Award-2017 at an event held in Indore recently. Kohli has been awarded a medal and a certificate for his social work through his NGO, Barkat Welfare Society of Amritsar.
The award is being given by the Indian chapter of the World Book of Records and Indore-based Alma foundation. Kohli has been working for the welfare of people for the past three years.
He said, “In 2014 during the first year of the college, I along with my sister and a few friends formed an NGO. Initially, we visited various colleges to create awareness about socio-economic issues, which are impacting the present world, and motivate youngsters to pool their minimum resources and work for the nation,” added Kohli, a graduate in BCom.
Talking about his journey, he said, “It has been a long journey. Dr Manmohan Singh, who is the elder brother of my grandfather, is an inspirational figure. His achievements motivated me to do something for society and I never looked back. Luckily, my father supported me to become a social worker.”
“He is the man whose presence in my life motivates me to do all these things. I do not tolerate any kind of injustice. I have filed more than 100 RTI queries to bring things in the public forum. There is a lot to be done,” added Kohli.
