The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) today got a shot in arm when the SAD leader and former Agriculture Development Bank chairman, Pargat Singh Chaugwana, joined the party during a programme held at Chawinda Devi village in Majitha constituency here today.

AAP Punjab in charge Sanjay Singh and state convener Gurpreet Singh Waraich were also present on the occasion. They accorded him warm welcome for joining the party. AAP carried out a road show in Chawinda Devi village, besides the Kathunangal and Jaintipur village areas.

Chaugwan had resigned from his chairmanship following the sacrilege instances at Bargari. He was considered a close associate of Cabinet Minister Bikram Singh Majithia.

Speaking on the occasion Sanjay Singh urged the people to vote for a change and choose AAP for the overall development of the state. Gurpreet said residents of Majitha were under tremendous pressure due to the ‘Goondagardi’ unleashed by SAD workers and supporters of Bikram Majithia. He said the people should now come out of fear and vote for AAP.

Pargat Singh said, “I resigned from chairmanship in protest against the sacrilege instances, but the so called ‘Panthak’ started targeting my family.” He said he was ready for any sacrifices for the AAP.

AAP candidate kick-starts campaign in Rajasansi

The Aam Aadmi Party candidate for the upcoming Assembly elections from the Rajasansi constituency, Jagjot Singh, today kick-started his election campaign after holding a meeting with party volunteers here. He was declared party candidate from Rajasansi in the fourth list announced recently.

A social worker associated with Khalsa Aid Society, Jagjot Singh, said that he would highlight corruption, drug addiction and unemployment among youth as key issues during his election campaign.

Pitched against SAD stalwart Veer Singh Lopoke and the Congress leader, Sukhbinder Singh Sukh Sarkaria, Jagjot in a press conference today stated that the people would not support traditional political parties.

Jagjot said he was a political greenhorn as he had started participating in AAP events only two years ago. “But I am strongly convinced that the people want to get rid of the old regime and want a positive change in the system,” he added. Before his nomination Jagjot was working as party’s Kisan and Mazdoor Cell zone in charge.
