High drama was witnessed outside the GNDU when four men abandoned a car just a few metres away from the campus entry gate towards Ram Tirth road on Wednesday. The incident happened in the evening when they were barred from entering the campus by the GNDU security team.
Sukhdev Singh, Chief Security Officer, GNDU campus, said, “They told us that they were kabbaddi players and students of the university. They wanted to use the GNDU playground for practice. When asked for their identity cards, they turned away the vehicle towards the exit gate. Just before a police checkpoint nearby, the four guys abandoned the vehicle and fled.”
Cops took the vehicle to the Mahal police station. ADCP Lakhbir Singh said nothing suspicious was found from the vehicle. “At around 4 pm, occupants of a white Fortuner car (PNC 14) were questioned by police personnel deployed at a checkpoint. The four men abandoned the vehicle and fled. The registration number of the car was fake but nothing suspicious was found in the car. We are still looking for the four persons.”
Meanwhile, the GNDU authorities said that the new regulation of the university, which rules out the entry of any unregistered vehicle to the campus, has been able to keep miscreants at bay. “We are hopeful that the miscreants are caught and probed. The new regulation has helped us,” said GNDU Registrar KS Kahlon.
