Counseling and prevention of cancer is the best possible way to tackle the menace, according to Kulwant Singh Dhaliwal. The philanthropist and global ambassador of World Cancer Care was in the city to announce the XXVII National Conference of Indian Association of Oral & Maxillofacial Pathologists that would be hosted in Amritsar in November.

World Cancer Care, along with FICCI FLO, Amritsar, is organising a Community Outreach Programme on cancer awareness including an Early Detection of Cancer Camp. Addressing the issue, Dhaliwal, who is based in UK, said, “If we shun our inhibitions and fear, cancer can be controlled and cured at an early age.”

Lok Sabha MP Gurjeet Singh Aujla extended his support to the porgramme and joined hands to make this mission reach far and wide to the rural areas as well. “We have been working at the ground level as well as bring awareness regarding early detection against cancer,” he said.

Dhaliwal has been associated with Roko Cancer program and he has set up the screening camp by providing nine fully-equipped mobile cancer detection units, cancer specialists and test facilities. He said the aim was to cover over 50 lakh people this year for cancer screening.

FICCI FLO chairperson Gowri Bansal said, “Educating people, especially the urban population on cancer, will drive away the fears and stigma associated with it. Finding the cure of cancer is one part of it, but half the battle is won if detected in time.”

Dr Simarpreet V Sandhu, organising chairperson of the XXVII National IAOMP Conference 2018, said the conference aimed at arousing interest and consciousness and impart knowledge to the public about major cancers.

All screenings and tests will be done for free.
