“Conducting the upcoming Assembly elections peacefully will be my priority,” said newly appointed Police Commissioner G Nageshwara Rao, while taking charge here today.
Earlier, he was presented a guard of honor by policemen. Immediately after joining the office, he held meeting with officials to get knowledge about the present force in the city.
“Holding peaceful elections is my top priority at the moment and I will make strategy accordingly after holding meetings with my colleagues,” he added.
Rao said he would ensure that no violent incidents occurred in the city during polls.
G Nageshwara Rao is a 1995 batch IPS officer. Earlier, he served the holy city as SP (headquarters). He has also served in Central Bureau of Investigations. He was IG (investigations) when he was deputed to investigate the infamous encounter of SAD leader Mukhjit Singh, alias Mukha, which had led to strong protest by residents in Verka in 2015. He was heading the special investigating team constituted for the probe. Later, on the basis of his report, the accused policemen were booked.
