Gloom prevails in martyr’s village

Bathinda, December 6

A pall of gloom descended on Sooch village in Rampura block of the district after the death of its resident Lance Naik Sukhwinder Singh, who died in a militant attack in Jammu & Kashmir on Friday. Thirty two-year-old victim was survived by his wife Gurvinder Kaur, father Harneik Singh, mother Karnail Kaur and his two brothers.
Sainik Board, Bathinda, Captain Gurmail Singh, said the militants attacked an Army camp in the Uri sector near Srinagar with grenade and gun shots at 3 am on December 5. In the attack, Sukhwinder Singh and one more soldier were killed.
He had been serving in the Army for the last 13 to 14 years and had married Gurvinder Kaur of Bohrwala village three years ago. He was to come back to village on holidays in 2 to 3 days, but destiny had planned something else for him.
The villagers demanded that the state government should support the martyr’s family.
Sukhchain Singh and Sukhvinder Singh said his body will arrive here tomorrow morning from Jammu & Kashmir and the cremation would be performed with the Army honours. They also said that the cremation will be performed at 10 am.
