Dr Satish Duggal, Assistant Professor (chest and TB) at Government Medical College (GMC), died during hospitalisation at a private hospital last night. The hospital authorities reported the matter to the police after the death.
As per information, Dr Duggal felt uneasiness at night and took some medicines. As his condition deteriorated, he was taken to the hospital.
After the post-mortem examination, the body was handed over to the family. In charge of the Majitha Road police station, Gagandeep Singh, said they had registered a case under Section 174 of the Indian Penal Code.
The fact that the hospital called up the police gave rise to the speculation among his circles that Dr Satish Duggal had committed suicide.
Gagandeep Singh said, “Acoording to the norms, whenever a patient dies because of medicine overdose or reaction, the hospital authorities have a duty to report the matter to the police.” Official of the Police Department said the family members of the deceased denied any possibility of a suicide.
