Prof AS Brar, Vice-Chancellor of Guru Nanak Dev University, (GNDU) constituted an anti-ragging committee at the university level to curb the menace of ragging on the university campus.

Prof Sharanjit Singh Dhillon, Registrar, said the committee includes the Vice-Chancellor as chariman; the Dean, Academic Affairs, as member and the Dean Student Welfare as convener.

The anti-ragging committee also includes naib tehsildar, Amritsar 2, as a nominee of the Deputy Commissioner; Additional Deputy Commissioner, Police (Crime), Amritsar City, as nominee of the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP); Dr Inderjit Kaur, chairman, All India Pingalwara Society, Amritsar; a journalist from Amritsar; a representative of non-teaching staff, a representative of faculty, Prof Mandeep Kaur, Commerce Department; member of students’ representative body (men and women each) and parents of two senior students and two freshers.

Schedule for youth fests released

Guru Nanak Dev University (GNDU) has released the schedule for youth festivals to be held on its campus by the Department of Youth Welfare of the university from September 19 to November 5.

Dr Jagjit Kaur, director, said the Zonal Youth Festival of Government Constituent Colleges and Associate Institutes would be held from September 19 to September 22.

While the Zonal Youth Festival of Educational Colleges would be organised from October 1 to October 3, 2016.

The Zonal Youth Festival A Zone would be held from October 6 to 9, C Zone Youth Fest from October 24 to 27 and the Inter-Zonal Final Youth Festival would be held from November 2 to 5.

Competitions in the 34 items of music, theatre, dance, literary and fine arts would be organised during the youth festivals that is expected to draw an array of talent from the participating students.
