Gurinder Chadha’s movie to be part of India-Pak event

AMRITSAR: A special screening of Gurinder Chadha’s latest movie ‘Partition: 1947’ will be held in Amritsar prior to its release as part of the 22nd Hind-Pak Dosti Sammelan on August 14.

A special screening of Gurinder Chadha’s latest movie ‘Partition: 1947’ will be held in Amritsar prior to its release as part of the 22nd Hind-Pak Dosti Sammelan on August 14. The event will be organised by the Hind-Pak Dosti Manch, Folklore Research Academy, Punjab Jagriti Manch, Jalandhar, here in the city.

Satnaam Singh Manak, general secretary, Hind-Pak Dosti Manch, said, “Before the movie releases worldwide, the screening shall be held as part of celebrations to mark the Independence Day. The entire idea is to promote harmony between the two countries.”

Gurinder Chadha, director and producer of the film, will be present at the special screening. The movie shows the Partition of India with a fresh tone. He said, “A special seminar will be held at Punjab Naatshala on impact of the Partition which shall be presided over by Jaspal Singh, former Vice Chancellor, Punjabi University, Patiala.”

Ramesh Yadav, president, Folklore Research Academy, said, “We have dedicated it to people who lost their lives in the Partition. Respects will be paid to them.”

The Hind Pak Dosti Manch annually organises cultural activities and seminars on furthering artiste exchange between the two countries ahead of Independence Day. The organisers decided to carry out the programme admist tension between the two country.
