Devotees paid obeisance at the Golden Temple and Gurdwara Ramsar. They took a holy dip in the Amrit Sarovar of the Golden temple and listened to the recitation of Gurbani in the holy precincts of the Sikh shirnes.

Bhogs of akhand paths of Sri Guru Granth Sahib, dedicated to the fifth Sikh Guru, were performed at the historic Gurdwara Ramsar, where the fifth Sikh Guru had edited Guru Granth Sahib and wrote Sukhmani Sahib.

The SGPC also organised religious ‘diwans’ in which Dhadhi Jathas (ballad singers), Kavishari Jathas and raagis rendered holy hymns of the Gurbani. They narrated the martyrdom details of the fifth Guru for the devotees who had gathered at Gurdwara Ramsar near the Golden Temple.

Chabeels that served cold sweet water were put up on almost all roads of the city. Devouts served water to commuters in the scorching heat.

As a mark of commemorating the martyrdom of the fifth Sikh Guru, Guru Arjan Dev, the management and the faculty of Sri Guru Teg Bahadur Public School, Khankot village, near Amritsar, satisfied the thirst of passersby by putting up a chhabeel.

In a separate programme, divine kirtan reverberated in the air as Gurdwara Sahib of the Chief Khalsa Diwan Charitable Society observed the martyrdom day of the fifth Guru, Sri Guru Arjan Dev.

Rendition of religious hymns by students of Sri Guru Harkrishan School, GT Road, and Central Khlasa Orphanage created an aura of mysticism and spirituality.

President, CKD, Charanjit Singh Chadha threw light on the life of Sri Guru Arjan Dev and motivated students to follow in the footsteps of their Sikh gurus who sacrificed their comfort and families and even their lives to serve humanity.

He said Sri Guru Arjan Dev sowed the seeds of martyrdom, which became the heritage of the Sikhs.

Thereafter langar, cold and sweet water was served to all devotees and passersby throughout the day.
