Amritsar, May 9

Amritsar Civil Society has filed a RTI application to know the status of escalators installed at the local railway station around a year ago alleging that these are seldom operational.

President of the society PC Bali said the escalators were installed with much fanfare to help passengers move around without much difficulty.

He said in the past one year, escalators had been seen operational only on a few instances.

He said the society would ensure that the escalators were made operational daily so that passengers could get benefitted from the service.

Earlier, Bali had initiated a campaign to get defunct street lights repaired in various areas  using RTI and RTS Acts.

“Though the government has introduced the Right to Service Act, residents are not aware about the same,” Bali said.
