In a new set of instructions for private diagnostic labs and hospitals, the Health Department has asked them to inform its officials about the arrival of any new dengue and malaria patient at their centres.

Health officials said information about dengue and malaria patients from private medical establishments would help in making a better health policy.

District Epidemiologist Dr Madan Mohan said, “Figures of patients suffering from any disease are of paramount importance for the policy makers. Making it mandatory for the private institutions to provide the information will also help the patients. No private lab or hospital will be able to fleece them by misrepresenting the test reports.”

For dengue patients, the department collects samples of every positive patient and doctors examined them at the laboratory of Government Medical College. — TNS
