An inter-college debate was organised at Khalsa College of Education by The Tribune group of newspapers here today. Students from as many as 12 colleges from the city participated in the debate. They spoke on the impact of Google on the younger generation. As many as 23 students discussed pros and cons of using Google as tool of knowledge. Kunwar Vijay Pratap Singh, DIG (border), was the chief guest on the occasion. RMS Chhina, honorary Secretary, Khalsa College, was the guest of honour.
Most students stressed on the need for cutting down dependency on Google for educative purpose. While others opined that Google had helped in giving free and unlimited access to global news and information.
Harkiran Kaur from DAV College was adjudged the winner of the debate while Varun Verma of Global College bagged the second prize. Nighat Aujla of BBK DAV College was the winner of third prize. The winner of the first prize was awarded Rs 8,000, second prize Rs 6,000 and third prize Rs 4,000 in cash, respectively.
Apart from the three prizes, consolation prizes were also given to students. Rydham Mehra form Hindu College, Parmeet Kaur from Khalsa College for Education and Jaspreet Kaur from Khalsa College were awarded Rs 2,500 each in cash as consolation prize. BBKDAV College bagged the best college trophy.
Other colleges, which participated in the debate were, Amritsar College of Engineering, SR Govt College, Sri Sai College, Swami Satyanand College and Satyam College.
