A Jammu resident, who had married against the wishes of her parents, was allegedly abducted by them on July 18.

The victim, identified as Saima Chaudhry, alias Sanampreet Kaur, had solemnised a court marriage to a Sikh youth, Daler Singh, in the local court. The police have registered a case under Sections 365, 120-B, 148 and 149, IPC, against Aslam, Nazir, Seema Chaudhry, another unidentified person and a woman, all residents of Jammu.

Daler Singh, who also hails from Jammu, stated to the police that he had an affair with Chaudhry, but her family was opposed to their relationship. He said they ran away from Jammu and solemnised a court marriage in April. Chaudhary’s family members had also lodged a kidnapping case against Daler Singh with the Jammu police, which was later quashed by the court.

He said on July 18, he had gone for some work and received a call from his uncle, Joginder Singh. Joginder told him the accused had forcibly taken away Chaudhry with them in a car (PB-02-BD-8504) from his rented accommodation. He said he tried to search for her but in vain.

Lakhbir Singh, SHO, Sadar police station, said as the accused belonged to a different state, the police had procured the warrant from the local court for conducting a raid.
