Jewellers sit on hunger strike at Lawrence Road

Demanding a rollback of excise duty on the sale and purchase of gold and diamond ornaments, traders and artisans who were on warpath sat on hunger strike at Lawrence Road here today.

President of the Amritsar Sarafa Association Sawinder Singh informed that a group of 10 goldsmiths sat on hunger strike today. He said their protest entered its 12th day today. Members of the Bullion Ornament Civil Line and District Swarnkar Sangh also took part in the protest.

The protesting goldsmiths and artisans urged the Union government to roll back one per cent of excise duty on the sale and purchase of gold and diamond ornaments.
