Born and brought up in Lucknow, the city of tehzeeb, singer Kanika Kapoor is a striking picture of elegance and style. And reflecting her fashion sensibilities is her fashion label House of Chikankari. Unveiling the brand at the Plush shopping exhibition, the divas brought to the city an elegant collection of luxurious chikankari work, straight from the weavers of Lucknow.

Designed and nurtured by her mother, Poonam Kapoor, House of Chikankari has already been featured in various trunk shows in London, Dubai and India. As for the singer, who was all dressed up in one of her own, Kapoor says her debut in Amritsar fashion circuit is a welcome one. “I feel great to have come here with my brand as I am a Punjabi and I share the common passion for style and luxurious lifestyle. My mother is at the helm of affairs with House of Chikankari for 25 years now and I have just joined her in re-inventing the traditional craft of Lucknow. We employ weavers and women artisans in Lucknow and help them get noticed for their work,” she said.

The singer, who is known for some of the smashing hits like ‘Baby Doll’, ‘Chittiyan Kalaiyan’ and more, says she has a full plate as far as playback singing is concerned. Another celebrity designer at the show was Seema Khan, wife of Sohail Khan and a popular B-town stylist. In contrast with Kanika’s traditional collection, Seema’s collection was high on bling and glamour. “Punjab is a great market for hi-end fashion labels and we have got tremendous response at the show. We hope to get a loyal clientele here,” said Khan. Working with pastels and floral designs, the exhibition featured some popular brands from Dubai and Pakistan as well.

The one-day exclusive shoppers’ delight was high on footfall, as organiser and curator Gawri Bansal put it. “The purpose was to familiarise the clientele with hi-end labels and facilitate direct-buyer to seller contact,” she said.
