As a precautionary measure, a large number of police personnel, including women cops, were deployed on the college campus.

After the High Court pronounced a verdict that the District Magistrate and Commissioner of Police must ensure that the protests were held beyond 500 yards of the radius of Khalsa College, the district administration swung into action.

Both the parties burnt the hatchet and arrived at a compromise late last night which was mediated by the district administration.

The students were protesting against the management in the suicide case of a BSc Agriculture final year student Harpreet Singh.

KCGC honorary secretary Rajinder Mohan Singh Chhina said the final semester examinations had been rescheduled and would commence from May 9. Remedial classes for detained students would be held form May 4 to May 7. Students have been informed through SMS and notices to collect their roll numbers from tomorrow i.e. May 4, he said.

The KCGC today started an Akhand Path of Guru Granth Sahib in memory of deceased Harpreet Singh. Its bhog would be performed on May 5.

Officiating principal Sukhmeen Kaur Bedi said a good number of students attended their classes today. Teaching and non-teaching staff of the college observed two-minute silence and prayed for the departed soul of Harpreet, she added.
