Amritsar: The rural police have booked a jail inmate for failing to return after the expiry of his parole period. Shera, a resident of Malakpur village, was serving 10 years in prison for raping a minor girl. Jail authorities said he was released on a six-week parole on March 15 this year and his parole ended on April 24. TNS

5 booked for abduction
Tarn Taran: Five persons of Sarhali Kalan village were booked under Sections 366, 366-A, 363 and 506 of the IPC for allegedly abducting a teenage girl of the same village on Thursday. Investigating officer Gurmit Singh said the accused, Gurmit Singh, Nishan Singh, Paramjit Singh, Gurjant Singh and Dalbir Singh, abducted the victim when she had gone to attend coaching classes. OC
Ex-serviceman’s rifle stolen
Tarn Taran: A .32 bore licenced rifle of an ex-serviceman, Sarabjit Singh, has been stolen from his home. His wife Ranjit Kaur said the family was at home but couldn’t notice when the rifle went missing. The Patti city police have registered a case. OC
