Jasbir Singh (58), a resident of Sudhar Rajputa village, was gunned down by three armed persons here late on Friday evening. He, along with his farm labourers Gurpreet Singh and Des Raj, was returning home from fields when the accused fired at him.
Navraj Singh, son of the deceased, said Jasbir Singh suffered bullet injuries at his head and arms while a bullet hit Des Raj’s leg. They were immediatly rushed to the Civil Hospital at Baba Bakala where doctors declared Jasbir Singh dead.
Paramjit Singh, SHO, Khalchian police station, said an old enmity was apparently reason behind the murderous attack. He said further investigation was under way to identify the suspects.
Navraj Singh said that his father Jasbir Singh, Gurpreet and Des Raj were returning home on their tractor-trolley. On the concrete road of the village, three youths with covered faces on a bike were waiting for them. One of them fired at his father from the front side. Bullets hit his father on forehead, arms besides hitting Des Raj. He immediately fell on the road. He said he, along with his uncles Baljit Singh and Sukhwinder Singh, rushed him to Baba Bakala Civil hospital where doctors declared him dead while Des Raj was under treatment.
SHO Paramjit Singh said Jasbir Singh was facing several cases of murder, attempt to murder and robbery. He said he was also having a land dispute. “Personal enmity or land dispute can be behind it. Further investigation is under progress,” he said, adding that a case under Sections 302, 307, 34 of the IPC and Section 25, 27, 54, 59 of the Arms Act was registered.
