Mohd Rafi remembered on 91st birth anniversary

The Baiju Bawra Sangeet Sadan of Virsa Vihar Society organised honorary event to celebrate the 91st birth anniversary of the legendary singer Mohamad Rafi. On the occasion, 16 artistes from Amritsar and Gurdaspur presented popular songs of Mohd Rafi that made him one of most celebrated singers of the Hindi cinema.
Harinder Sohal, music composer and organiser of the event, shared that the singer remains a legend for all those, who have established their name or aspiring to do so in the music industry. He said, “The celebration is a reflection of the talent that we have in the region.” The event was held to honour the most celebrated singer of his time, Mohd Rafi, he added. The young singers dedicated their performances to Rafi while showcasing their talent in front of an appreciative audience.
The event had a full attendance with the members of Virsa Vihar Society, including senior artistes Tarlochan Singh and Vajinder Singh, from Gurdaspur as special guests. Four-year-old Sangeet Soni from the city surprised everyone with his soulful performance on Rafi’s popular song “Gulaabi Ankhen” as the crowd cheered for the young singer.
Other notable performances for the evening were from Pragya Soni, Navjinder, Rajesh Bhagat, Sukhjinder and Pankaj. The singers were also honoured with mementos later.
