Money exchanger robbed of Rs 3.56 lakh

Two armed robbers looted Indian as well as foreign currency worth Rs 3.56 lakh from Paul Merchants, a shop dealing in money exchange, late on Thursday evening. The shop is situated a few yards away from the city police station at the main road.

After getting information about the robbery, higher-ups sent a three-member team, comprising SP (Investigations) Harjit Singh Grewal, DSP Kamaljit Singh Aulakh and Inspector Ravisher Singh (SHO) to collect the first-hand information on Friday. The incident has been captured by a CCTV cameras in the shop.

A case under Sections 382 and 452 of the IPC has been registered against the unidentified robbers.

According to Inspector Ravisher Singh, branch manager Balwinder Singh informed that two armed persons with covered faces turned up on the pretext of money exchange. After taking stock of the environment inside, one of them took out a pistol and the other weilded a sharp edge weapon. They threatened the complainant and took away Indian and foreign currency worth Rs 3.56 lakh. The robbers managed to escape from the spot with his record and mobile of the branch manager.

The SHO said there must have been more associate/s of the robbers waiting for them at some distance in some vehicle who helped them escape.
