Amritsar, January 2

The district consumer disputes redressal forum, Amritsar, has directed a leading broadband connection-providing company ‘Netplus Broadband’ to issue monthly bills, rectify online statement of accounts and pay Rs 5,000 as compensation to a complainant.

Consumer rights activist Parbodh Chander Bali had filed a complaint against the company alleging that it had not been issuing hard copies of the bills and allegedly charging excess amounts from the consumers.

In January 2018, Bali had placed an order to the company for installation of a broadband connection at his residence on a fixed monthly rent of Rs 589, including Rs 90 as GST.

On February 1, 2018, the company raised the rent but did not send any itemised bill. Despite repeated requests, the company refused to issue any bill while as per the law it was mandatory to issue bill where GST is charged or even otherwise to a consumer as must showing GST amount separately or inclusive.

Subsequently, on May 1, 2018 the company, instead of Rs 589, arbitrarily raised an online demand for Rs 635 for April “which had no bases” and on the protest by the consumer, the company got ready to accept Rs 589 but did not rectify online outstanding statement of the consumer.

On July 1, the company raised the demand for Rs 681 without any itemised invoice but later on admitted to accepting the correct amount of Rs 589 only. Again the company did not rectify online statement of outstanding, he accused.
