The decision of the Amritsar Improvement Trust (AIT) to lay jogging track on the green belt has drawn flak from the NGOs, which are already up in arms against the mindless cutting of trees in the city for various development projects.

Members of the Mission Aagaaz flayed replacing green belt with jogging track. They said it was an irony that on one side the AIT was trying to increase the green cover and on the other it was being uprooted for laying jogging track. They favoured green belt to be free from the encroachers. It should be developed and maintained by the improvement trust, added the members.
