It has been three days since gangster Rajat Malhotra, alias Karan Masti, escaped from the police custody while being taken to a court for hearing but the city police have no clue about his whereabouts. Karan had escaped from the district court complex on January 29. Though the police officials have claimed that they have been raiding the possible hideouts of the gangster, the efforts so far have proved to be futile.

ADCP Lakhbir Singh said, “There is no development in the case. We are making efforts to nab him.”

Karan Masti is a member of the Jaggu Bhagwanpuria and Bobby Malhotra gang, considered to be a rival of the slain gangster Vicky Gounder’s gang. Masti was arrested in October last year along with another gangster, Nikhil Takhi, alias Stylish. The police had recovered two country-made pistols along with four rounds, besides a stolen motorcycle from their possession. He was involved in many cases of robbery, dacoity and murder.

Two ‘A-class gangsters’ Saraj Singh Mintoo and Shubham Singh are already out of the police reach. They too are also associated with the Jaggu Bhagwanpuria gang and prime suspects in the murder of Vipin Sharma, a leader of a Hindu outfit. Sharma was killed on October 30 last year.

According to sources, Karan Masti may have links with Saraj and Subham. The police, however, rubbished such possibilities.

“Karan Masti don’t have any direct link with Saraj and Subham. There is an atmosphere in the jail that sometimes even a snatcher gets in touch with major gangsters,” said ADCP Lakbir Singh.
