The city police today claimed to have solved the murder case of a tavern owner who was shot dead by several persons, including notorious gangster Shubham on July 22. An employee of the tavern was also critically injured in the shootout. He succumbed to his injuries.
The deceased were identified as Hardev Singh of Guru Ramdass Avenue and his servant, Raju. Besides Shubham, the police have arrested Gaurav Singh, alias Sawan, of Friends Colony and Kapil Jaitley of Katra Kullu in connection with the case.
The police confiscated two firearms, including a .12-bore double-barrel gun with five cartridges and a country-made .315-bore pistol with five bullets besides 520 gm narcotic powder. They also recovered an Innova which they stolen from a driver on Majitha Road five days after the incident. The vehicle was seized from Tarn Taran, where it was kept hidden. Two motorcycles were also recovered, following their interrogation.
Three of their accomplices, identified as Amit Kumar alias Jhabi of Jagdamba Colony, Ravi Kumar of Medical Enclave and Simran Singh, alias Dhotia, of Mohini Park were yet to be arrested. Raids were being conducted on their suspected hideouts, said Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police Lakhbir Singh.
He said as per the probe so far, the gun belongs to his maternal uncle is in the Army. He said Shubham had an old enmity with Hardev Singh’s son.
Shubham was wanted in as many as 10 cases registered against him in the past one year. Many other criminal cases went unreported to the police as nobody came forward to lodge a complaint, said police sources.
