Notorious gangster arrested

Amritsar, February 11

A notorious gangster, Bagga Khan, was arrested by the Special Task Force (STF) from Makhu following an encounter. Khan is also wanted in the Tarn Taran gang war that took place at Harike on the intervening night of August 9-10 last year.

Dilbagh Singh, alias Lamma Patti, also a gangster, was killed while another person, identified as Akul Khatri, was injured in the gang war.

Khan was arrested by the STF along with his accomplices Gahiya Khan, Aman, Stephen and Vishal form the Makhu area in the morning today. The STF and Ferozepur police came under heavy fire from the gangsters, which led to cross firing.

Gahiya Khan sustained a bullet injury in the firing. Bagga Khan and Gahiya Khan were on the run after shooting one Kalimuddin in Malerkotla on February 8. They had an encounter with Malerkotla police. The cross fire between them had led to killing of a youth.

IG, STF, Kunwar Vijay Partap Singh, said Bagga Khan was accompanying Goru Bachcha gang, which was helping Davinder Shooter, alias Davinder Bambiha gang, during the Tarn Taran gang war in order to eliminate rival gangster Bobby Malohtra. Lamma Patti and Akul Khatri belonged to Jaggu Bhagwanpuria gang, which was being run by Bobby Malhotra, after Jaggu’s arrest.

Bagga Khan and Gahiya Khan were wanted in more than two dozen criminal cases. They were active in the Malwa belt for the past seven years. Before forming a gang, they used to supply country made weapon to gangsters, said the IG.

Teacher dies in mishap

Jalandhar: A teacher from Amritsar was run over by a military truck this morning on Maqsuda Road in the district.The victim indentified as Baljit Kaur (32), a resident of Wadali Dogra village in Amritsar district, died on the spot.

As per the police, the incident occurred when the woman got off the bus coming from Amritsar. When the victim tried to cross the road, she was run over by the truck.

The police have registered an FIR against the truck driver. The body has been sent to the local Civil Hospital for autopsy.
