With the launch of Ayushman Bharat-Sarbat Sehat Bima Yojna (AB-SSBY) in the state recently, the confusion prevails among residents that if they are eligible for the health scheme or not and what do they need to get the benefit. Even most of the residents are unaware about the procedure to avail benefit and to register.

Officials of the Health Department said the people could check their eligibility by visiting www.shapunjab.in website. The eligibility can be checked using Aadhaar card number, ration card number and other documents, said Deputy Medical Commissioner Dr Prabhdeep Kaur.

She said 30 private hospitals, whose list is also available on the website, have been empanelled by the government to provide services under the scheme.

Dr Kaur said that beneficiaries were required to contact common service centres for the purpose or can contact empanelled private and government hospitals. She said that the card would help in getting medical treatment.

However, residents who had checked the website complained that the portal was not working properly and instead often gives an error. The Health Officials claimed that it could be temporary problem and otherwise the website was working fine.

As per the local administration, around 3 lakh families in the district are eligible for the health insurance scheme and can get a treatment of up to Rs 5 lakh per family.

The listed beneficiaries include socio-economic-caste census 2011 data families, smart ration card holder families, J-form holder small and marginal farmers, small traders who are registered with excise and taxation department, construction workers who are registered with Punjab Building and other construction workers board.

Dr Prabhdeep Kaur said in case of any questions, the residents can also call at toll free number 104 for any information or can contact health department office.  — TNS
