Patients suffering from skin ailments who visit the Jallianwala Bagh Memorial Civil Hospital here are at the receiving end because the only skin specialist in the hospital has been shifted to the Employees State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) hospital on the Majitha road here after promotion. The ESI hospital already has two skin specialists, it is learnt.
Kapil Kumar, a resident of the walled city who visited the hospital, said his relative who was suffering from some skin ailment had visited the hospital where he came to know that the hospital did not have any skin specialist at the moment due to the transfer of the doctor who used to attend such patients. He said though the hospital authorities had made some stop-gap arrangement, the government should provide a replacement for the specialist doctor soon.
Confirming the development, Dr HS Ghai, senior medical officer (SMO) of the hospital, said that he had already written to the health department to provide a skin specialist here. He said over 60 patients visited the OPD daily to visit the skin specialist. For the time being, a medical officer had been deputed to examine the skin patients till they get some replacement. He said patients would not face any problems. In case of any emergency, we refer the patients to other health institutions.
