A 20-year-old orchestra dancer died in road accident here yesterday. A “speeding” Punjab Roadways bus crushed her to death at Fathuwal village in Beas. The deceased has been identified as Gurpreet Kaur Anu, a resident of Jandiala. The bus driver has been identified as Dharmbir Sharma of Chohla Sahib.
Complainant Jagtar Singh told the Beas police that he along with his wife Joti Kaur and her friend Gurpreet Kaur Anu were heading towards Raiya on his bike. Joti was carrying her one-year-old son.
He said a speeding bus of Punjab Roadways hit his bike from the rear side near Fathuwal village on the national highway, flipping him, Joti and the baby towards the roadside but Anu fell on the right side. Her head was crushed under the rear tyre of the bus, resulting in her death on the spot.
Jagtar, Joti Kaur and their son received minor injuries. On being informed, the police reached the spot. The injured were rushed to a hospital.
ASI Agyapal Singh, the investigating officer, said, “We have arrested bus driver Dharmbir Sharma.”
Both Joti and Anu used to work as a dancer in an orchestra. Jagtar Singh was going to drop them at a marriage palace. Anu was the sole breadwinner for her family.
