Harpandeep Singh Aujla (30), who has made it to the MC House from Ward No. 4, is one of the young councillors. Earlier, he had been associated with the National Student Union of India (NSUI), student wing of the Congress. It is his first term as a councillor.
This ward comprises Ranjit Avenue, Defence Enclave, Kiran Colony, Kapoor Mill Police Quarters and Kachari. Most of the localities in the area are posh and developed with planning.
The only locality that needs improvement is Kiran Colony. Residents of Kiran Colony are deprived of proper sewerage, potable water, roads and parks.
Harpandeep said he would ensure all necessary facilities for the residents of Kiran Colony. “I had promised them improvement. Roads will be carpeted soon. Besides, there are some areas of Ranjit Avenue where sewage lines are not working properly. We will take care of the issue. The Amritsar Improvement Trust (AIT) had got constructed a community centre here which is still incomplete. I will try to make it functional,” he said.
According to Aujla, he would try to act as a bridge between the residents and the government. “I am in touch with the residents of the area. I will work for the development of the ward,” he added.
Harpandeep is a graduate in Business Management from New Zealand and a close relative of Member of Parliament (MP) Gurjit Singh Aujla.
